In this audio clip, Shaykh Muḥammad Ādam al-Atyūbi (رحمه الله) comments on the adhān introduced by ʿUthmān (رضي الله عنه) during his khilāfah. He explains the reason why it was introduced, due to an increase in population, people being far from the mosque, and not hearing the call to prayer. So with this adhān, the people could hear it and prepare for the jumuʿah prayer. He said that the Companions, the majority of them accepted it from him, and it was the sunnah of ʿUthmān, and then the affair became established upon that.

Note:

Some of the Hājurites claimed that I presented the view of the shaykh regarding contagion, but I never shared his view regarding the adhān of ʿUthmān because, in their view, it would undermine the censure and critique against al-Ḥajūrī on the same issue.

In another place, the Shaykh explains that all of the Companions and Successors witnessed this adhān and that most of the Companions agreed with it, and that among them were those who said it was an innovation—[this is based on a contested narration from Ibn ʿUmar (رضي الله عنه), which even if authentic has alternative interpretations that do not support the claims of al-Hajūrī]—but that they were a small number, and that the conclusion is that it is a Sunnah and is done but only when the need for it arises, and this is similar to the view of Shaykh al-Albānī (رحمه الله).

One can clearly see the difference. The Shaykh said that the majority of the Companions accepted it from him, and it became accepted and that it is a Sunnah which should be applied whenever the need for it arises. Whereas al-Hajūrī said it is the mother of all innovations, and an opposition and misguidance and he belittles and attacks those who do not hold his view.

What is the talbīs (deception) of the Ḥājūrites here? The deception is that while Shaykh al-Atyūbī (رحمه الله) refers to the narration of Ibn ʿUmar, he does not come to the conclusion of al-Ḥajūrī, rather, the very opposite. They only make use of this isolated statement of the Shaykh out of academic and intellectual dishonesty, because even if Shaykh al-Atyūbī referss to the narration and says some Companions saw it as an innovation, that is because he has not thoroughly investigated the narration, and in any case, the truth lies in what Shaykh Rabīʿ made clear about the narration, that it is not established and even if it was, then it has other alternative valid explanations as to what he meant.

These people are not honest, and this is what bigotry and fanaticism for individuals and personalities does, it blinds from the truth.

Regarding the Adhān of ʿUthman: Bayān Talbīs al-Ḥajāwirah

A defence of ʿUthmān (رضي الله عنه) against the claims of Yaḥyā al-Ḥajūrī and his Ḥaddādī followers in light of the taḥqīq (verification) of the Scholars of Ahl al-Sunnah, both past and present, in the matter.

Investigating the issue of the adhān instituted by ʿUthmān (رضي الله عنه) is sufficient to establish that the Ḥajūrites are muqallidah (blind-followers), that they follow their desires once their opposition to the truth carried by the scholars of the Ummah at large is made clear to them, and that they are prepared to go to any lengths to defend their leader Yaḥyā al-Ḥajūrī even if his mistakes are as clear as the daylight sun.

In what follows, we take a look at the issue of the adhān of ʿUthmān (رضي الله عنه) as it is a good illustration of the types of deceptions used by al-Ḥajūrī and his followers in other issues for which he has also been criticised and refuted.
